Mrs. Sara L. Fisher, 90, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Wachapreague, was called to rest on Monday, Nov. 14, 2022 at her residence.
Born in Wachapreague, Sara was the beloved daughter of the late Samuel and Lucille Mapp. She was affectionately called “Nanny” by her family and friends.
Nanny was educated in the Accomack County School system and was a graduate of Mary N. Smith High School. Upon graduation, she attended the Philadelphia School of Practical Nursing and completed her course of study on Nov. 22, 1957. Afterwards, she worked in the healthcare field for many years.
On Aug. 18, 1980, Sara married James Fisher and sometime afterwards they decided to return to her birthplace, Wachapreague.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, from Grace Independent Church, Wachapreague, with Pastor Norman Pitt officiating. Interment was in the Burton’s Chapel Cemetery, Keller.
Nanny leaves to mourn, her sister, Matilda D. Nedab; nieces, Lucy Nedab-Shedrick, Linda J. Mapp, Lafonda Mapp, and Tammy Matthews; nephews, Samuel L. Mapp, Vernon Mapp, and Wayne Mapp; several great-nieces; four great-nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Arrangements are by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
