Mrs. Emerald “Emolee” Olevia Singletary, 96, of Virginia Beach, wife of the late Charles Singletary, passed away Nov. 12, 2022, in Virginia Beach.
Born on Feb. 7, 1926, in Parksley, she was the daughter of the late Reginald W. Hillman and the late Anna Lessie Menzel Hillman. On Jan. 14, 1946, she was married to Charles Singletary, who preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1996.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Singletary was preceded in death by her sister, Bertha Luthera Massey (and husband, Sherman), of Fruitland, Md.; her brother, Adolf Franklin Hillman (and wife, Doris), of Oilville, Va.; her brother-in-law, Claude Seymour, of Woodbridge, Va.; and her grandson, William James, of Chesapeake.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Bill Adams, of Virginia Beach; her sister, Beatrice Seymour, of Woodbridge; her grandchildren, Jennifer Thornton (Anthony), of Chesapeake, Joel James (Julia), of Pinson, Ala., and Denise Gibbs (Darren), of Dundas, Va.; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A private burial will be held at Liberty Cemetery in Parksley.
Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
