Memorials Are History

Oct 10, 2021 | Opinion

Dear Editor:

This is in response to Brian Bloedel’s letter of Sept. 10 in which he called for the removal of all Confederate memorials.

Mr. Bloedel’s comments blatantly contradict one another. He chooses to reject, deny, and remove any memory or semblance of the Confederate States of America, while at the same time, he tells us “to see the past as it actually was and to honestly face the realities of that past as they actually happened.”

The memories Mr. Bloedel would like to see removed ARE the past. You can’t have it both ways.

If you want to see the past as it was and honestly face the realities, you’d better make sure those memorials stay where they are.
