Coastal Storm To Bring Extended Flooding, Wind

The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va., has issued a briefing as of 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, regarding the expected coastal storm later this weekend into next week. 

Overview and Impacts:

  • Moderate to major tidal flooding is expected along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, Atlantic Ocean, and Virginia tidal rivers. Be prepared for high tide cycles to be well above astronomical high tide starting tonight through mid-week.
  • Gale conditions are expected for the Chesapeake Bay, Atlantic Ocean and Currituck Sound starting this afternoon and continuing through Tuesday.
  • Large breaking waves will also lead to instances of dune and beach erosion.
