Mrs. Helen Potts Merritt, 94, of Chincoteague Island, passed away Nov. 19, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Chincoteague Island, on July 24, 1927, a daughter to the late William and Viola (Melvin) Potts.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church, Daughters of Ruth Sunday School Class, and Accomack Order of Eastern Star #62.
Helen is survived by her loving granddaughters, Crystal Fisher and Tammy Mitchell, of Chincoteague Island; two grandsons, Drew Merritt and his wife, Callie, of Greenbackville, and Mark Merritt, of Chincoteague Island; great-grandsons, Zack Fisher, of Chincoteague Island, and Maddox and Andrew Merritt, of Greenbackville; sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Merritt and Betsy Potts, both of Chincoteague Island; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Paul B. Merritt; son, Greg Merritt; sister, Ruby Hall; and brothers, Lloyd and Everett Potts .
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at 2 p.m., with a viewing an hour before at Union Baptist Church, Chincoteague Island, with the Rev. Kevin Eley officiating.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to Riverside Shore Hospice, 25379 Lankford Highway, Onley, VA 23418.
Services were entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home Inc., on Chincoteague Island.
