Lois Ann Mears

Nov 22, 2020 | Obituaries

Mrs. Lois Ann Mears, of Southside Chesconnessex, passed away Nov. 18, 2020, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley. Born Feb. 6, 1929, in Accomack County, she was the daughter of the late Johnny Braden Gibbons Sr. and the late Myrtle Spence Gibbons.

Lois was a homemaker and a member of Riverview United Methodist Church in her earlier years. She adored her family, and she especially loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading and gardening, and rarely met a stranger throughout her life, always lending a helping hand to those in need. For many years after her husband’s passing, she looked forward to her morning ritual of meeting her brothers and childhood friends at Hardee’s for coffee.

During her time at Shore Health and Rehab, Lois made quite the impact on the wonderful staff and residents, always sharing what she had. She was particularly fond of Faith Crockett and Ruby Rew. Lois’s family will remain forever grateful for the incredible care she received.

Lois was predeceased by her husband, Robert Olin Mears, and their sons, Robert O. “Bobby” Mears Jr. and R. Dale Mears.

She leaves behind her daughter, Joann Mears-Russell; son-in-law, Tom Russell; two grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Mears, of Cheriton, and Tommy Russell, of Oahu, Hawaii; great-grandchildren, Elijah Robert Mears, Bella Mears, Donald Mears, and Lilly Anna Mears.

Lois will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Private interment was held at the Mount Holly Cemetery.
