Two people were transported to a Maryland hospital with injuries Thursday after a Jeep driven by an 82-year-old man became lodged under a tractor trailer in a crash on Chincoteague Road.
The crash happened around 9:09 a.m. on Chincoteague Road west of Coardtown Road in Wattsville, according to Virginia State Police Spokeswoman Michelle Anaya.
A tractor trailer was trying to back into a private driveway from the road when it was struck by a 2010 Jeep traveling east, resulting in the Jeep becoming lodged under the trailer.
The driver of the Jeep, an 82-year-old New Church man, and a 67-year-old woman, also of New Church, were taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md., with non-life threatening injuries, according to Anaya.
The truck driver, a 59-year-old male, was not injured.
Police did not immediately name those involved in the crash.
No charges have been placed and the investigation is ongoing, Anaya said.
The highway department was on scene rerouting traffic after the crash.
The road reopened to traffic at 10:06 a.m.
